Conflict and disputes are a normal part of life, but sometimes there are barriers to resolving issues effectively.
DMx specialises in inclusive, sensitive and empowering practices so people from culturally diverse and minority groups feel they can mediate conflict safely and equally.
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential discussion between two (or more) people who have a dispute.
A neutral and independent mediator assists those involved to discuss the issues, giving each person a chance to be heard and to listen to what the other person has to say.
It is a practical, effective and cost-effective approach to air problems, explore solutions and resolve conflict quickly.
To support diversity, equity and inclusion in organisations, dispute resolution processes must be inclusive, safe and accessible for everyone.
The processes must overcome barriers faced by people from minority and marginalised groups. Otherwise people from those groups will not participate and issues will escalate or remain unresolved.
At DMx we focus on providing a mediation service tailored for diverse voices, making sure people from minority groups feel safe and have equal opportunity to be heard and have their interests valued.
At Diverse MediaXion, our independent and highly skilled mediators provide a specialised mediation service. We use the pre-mediation process to gain an understanding of the people involved - identifying and assessing individual characteristics and factors that may relate to the dispute, or be barriers to ending the conflict.
With this information we tailor the mediation approach to be inclusive for both participants, and one that will work across differences in interests, values, world-views, cultures, religions, power and privilege.
Dr Andrea de Silva (she/her) is an experienced mediator, D&I professional, leader, legal practitioner and research professional. In addition to 20+ years' experience of governance, management and leadership across multiple sectors, Andrea has lived experience of being a culturally diverse woman, woman of colour and from a migrant background.
Andrea founded Diverse MediaXion to deliver dispute resolution processes that are evidence-based and accessible for everyone, especially those who are culturally diverse, people of colour and others from marginalised and disadvantaged groups.
Our vision is for an inclusive society where everyone feels heard, valued and respected, and that they are welcome and belong in every space.
Our mission is to provide a safe, reliable and effective conflict resolution process where people from culturally diverse and minority groups have equal opportunity to be heard and have their interests valued.
Our facilitated mediation approach is neutral, flexible and practical. It can be trusted to honour individual differences, circumstances, interests and values and is based on the principles of self determination, confidentiality and equality.
